Clinical Consultant - Durand F. Jacobs, Ph.D., ABPP
Durand F. Jacobs, PhD. Is a Diplomat in Clinical Psychology, conferred in 1975 by the American Board of Professional Psychology. He has been a Professor of Medicine (Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences) at the Loma Linda University Medical School since 1978. He was first vice president of the National Council on Problem Gambling,Inc. between 1991-1999.
He has been directly involved in treatment, training of health professionals, and research on addictive behaviors over the past forty years.
In 1972 he was instrumental in establishing the first inpatient treatment program for male compulsive gamblers. During 1982 he published "The General Theory of Addictions", a new model for understanding and treating addictive patterns of behavior. His studies were the first to describe the extent and nature of gambling among high school youth, and to document the special vulnerability of children whose parents gambled excessively. His research among Native Americans, Asians, substance abusers, and other high risk groups has been reported at many national and international conferences, and published in a number of journals and books. He is a recipient of the Herman Goldman Foundation Award for his "dedication, support, and continuing research efforts highlighting the consequences of compulsive gambling on families and youth". In 1995 he was honored by the Harvard Medical's Division on Addictions," for lifelong contributions to youth gambling". He has received International Achievement Awards from McGill University's International Centre for Youth Gambling and High Risk Behaviors for " pioneering contributions to the field of youth gambling" . He was also honored by the Institute for the Study of Gambling and Commercial Gaming, located at the University of Nevada, "for lifelong contributions to gambling research and policy".
He resides with his talented artist wife in Redlands, California.
