Our Facility

The Thorpe Recovery Centre opened its doors to the new facility on January 23, 2012. As you pass by Blackfoot, Alberta, the building is located on the North side of Highway 16.

In order to help more people struggling with addiction, our facility is able to accommodate more people than ever before. In this state-of-the-art building on 34 acres of land just outside of Lloydminster, Alberta, we will continue to run our medical detoxification and residential treatment programs, however we are able to increase the number of programs and services we offer, including the following:

  • 42 beds for adult residential programming, 10 beds for youth residential programming, 14 beds for adult detox and 6 beds for youth detox
  • Separate wings for treating adults and youth, each with its own dining room, craft room, exercise room, laundry facilities, counselling and lecture space, and a comfortable quiet area equipped with a high efficiency gas fireplace
  • Space designed to allow for best practices in addiction treatment, such as semi-private rooms and common washrooms for youth and two-person rooms with private three-piece washrooms for adults
  • Separate youth and adult detox spaces that make efficient use of a common nursing station
  • One commercial kitchen serving both dining rooms
  • Gymnasium offering opportunities for physical activity and healthy interaction
  • Beautiful outdoor areas and walking paths providing space in which to enjoy nature and engage in the exploration of self and spirit

Building Access
Some of the beds at the centre are government funded while the remainder are available on a fee for service basis.

Building Youth Programs
We expect to open our adolescent programming and detox services in late 2012 once key staff positions are filled in this area.

Building Success
Our rural location allows clients to engage in the recovery process without the distractions of city life. Additionally, the number of beds we have means that we are able to individualize programs, allowing those who need to stay longer to do so. We have also incorporated transitional programming for those who have completed detox but cannot immediately enter treatment.

Building Families
We have expanded to a four-day family program which allows us to continue to help more families heal, whether or not the addicted individual stays in recovery. Additional capacity will also allow us to customize our family programs and to spend more time working with the family.
