Safe Driving Program

Goals and Principles

The general goal of this program is identified by the Saskatchewan Government Insurance mandate to reduce the incidence of alcohol related traffic accidents and deaths in the province of Saskatchewan.  Drivers who have certain BAC (blood alcohol content) violations or who have criminal code convictions related to impaired driving are required to undergo addiction screening to determine whether or not they are actively chemically dependent.

This office specifically provides the screening and referrals according to this SGI mandate.

Accessing this service:

  1. SGI will mail a letter to individuals required to access this service.  It will suggest where you can go for screening.
  2. Phone (780) 872-0505 to book an appointment for intake at this agency.
  3. You will be advised to bring the following with you on your first visit:
    •  A copy of the letter you received from SGI
    •  A copy of your Blood Alcohol Level (BAC) at time of charge
    •  A current driver’s abstract (available through SGI)
    •  A current health care card
  4. The first appointment is a group orientation to the assessment process.  On completion of this, you will be booked into your first individual session.
  5. Appointments are approximately one hour each.
  6. The screener you are working with will give you the results of the assessments and will advise as to what will be needed for you to get your license returned as quickly as possible.
