But most of all I was scared. When I was advised there was a Family Program, I thought, "Hadn't I been through enough? Hadn't I sacrificed enough? Was this really my problem? Isn't it my daughter who needs the help?" At first I thought, I wasn't going, I had been through enough. But I knew deep down, I had to go. While there, I learned I had not caused her addiction, I could not control her addiction, and I could not cure her addiction. Pistachio"I am a 39 year old native male from Alberta. My story is my own just like every other alcoholic or addict. But what I am sharing is the process of my recovery and the place it has taken place - the Thorpe Recovery Centre. First of all I've been through treatment five times, and have completed all of them which were all 42 day programs. As well as numerous detox centres. What I would like to say is what has transpired and what is different about this place and the people who run it. I've always wanted to quit my addictions and each time that I tried to quit something always kept me from succeeding; which was Honesty. But what changed for me here is that even though we just met, the people were sincere in helping me which opened a very important door to recovery. The Thorpe Recovery Centre was not only caring, but were quick to accept me. It is by far the best place I've been for recovery, because they've taught me that it's not just about abstaining from alcohol and drugs but also healing from past hurts and pains, and for me past traumas as well. I've never trusted anyone in my life until the Thorpe Recovery Centre reached out and cared about my well being. That door that they've helped open for me has opened many more doors, and I've never felt more different and confident about myself. I never really knew who I was until now.
